CAS Week 2025 – Sai Kung

4 June 2025

Monday kicked off with an exciting canyoneering expedition in Turtle Cove, where students navigated rugged terrain and conquered a waterfall climb. As dusk fell, they made their way to the picturesque Sai Kung campsite.

Tuesday transformed into "Civilization Day" where students mastered crucial survival techniques—building shelters, purifying water, and creating fire from scratch. The challenge was elevated by a trading system where students had to negotiate for resources.

Wednesday brought the thrill of stand-up paddleboarding across Sai Kung's waters, with the more adventurous paddlers reaching Sharp Island. Students spotted fascinating wildlife throughout their aquatic journey.

Thursday presented the ultimate navigation challenge—an Amazing Race across Hong Kong with no mobile devices! Relying solely on public transport and traditional navigation, teams explored locations from Repulse Bay to Tseung Kwan O, all making it to the iconic Bruce Lee statue checkpoint.

Friday capped the week with an inventive raft-building competition, complete with a materials auction. The mission? Build a seaworthy vessel to "rescue" an instructor waiting offshore.

The trip proved remarkable, with students visibly growing in confidence, forming new bonds, and acquiring skills that extended well beyond the classroom.

Kyle: Today we did wet canyoning and abseiling. I was kind of afraid at the top of the steep wall at the top of the mountain. I was planning on not going down but I jumped out of my comfort zone. I learnt that everything is possible. You need to believe in yourself.

Kate: Today it was fun learning to start a fire, even though it took a long time, it was so worth it. It was also interesting to learn first aid as it is helpful to us for the future. Overall, I learnt a lot and had lots of fun.

Ethan: Today was civilization day! We had to create a tribe and start from barely nothing but a bag with different items for survival. We built a shelter then bargained for a water filter and a fire lighter.

Siann: Today we did an activity called ‘Amazing Journey’. As a team, we had to go to check points designated on the map, take pictures and complete the mission. Also, we could not use any devices such as our phone. I was really worried because I have never used a map, or asked random people to go somewhere. However we said we could do it. We didn’t go to every checkpoint, but our teamwork and responsibility was really impressive and fun! It was literally an amazing journey!

Lena: Today it was SUP day. We rode across three islands and explored each one. My favourite moment of the day was when all of us gathered and started splashing in the water. It was fun and amazing how everyone engaged and participated in splashing. It was also very exciting to see part of Hong Kong I have never seen before. The view was gorgeous and unreal. Overall, it was a wonderful day and I really enjoyed it.

Clemence: Today we went to Turtle Cove Beach and we did raft building. First, we had mini-workshops to earn fake money! Then we had an auction where I was the bidder. Sadly, we didn’t buy enough, but we ‘bought’ 2 coaches. After using teamwork and communication, our raft was ready. At first we thought we were going to lose the race, because we thought our raft was going to sink. Unexpectedly, after numerous efforts, we won the race. Thank you to all the instructors and teachers for letting us experience this amazing journey!
