Meet Elisa Riou, our new Fundraising Specialist

What is your background and journey to FIS?
I'm from Toulon in the South of France and have been living in Hong Kong for four years. I recently made a pivot from the world of financial returns to social good. After a six-year career in startup climate tech investment, corporate innovation, and management consulting, I took a career break for some personal growth in India and Sri Lanka. This shift in perspective made me realize my true passion lay in helping people and making a more meaningful impact. My background taught me about the power of non-dilutive capital to create lasting change, which ultimately led me to the nonprofit sector, education, and FIS.
What is your philosophy and approach?
My philosophy is rooted in building authentic and long-term relationships. I don't see fundraising as a simple transaction, but as a genuine partnership built on shared values and a common mission. As the Kedge Alumni Hong Kong Chapter Leader, a former Women and Climate City Lead, and an Investor 4 Climate Ambassador, I've seen how building strong communities and strategic funding can be a powerful force for impact. My approach is to be a professional friend-maker, connecting donors' interests with our ambition at FIS to inspire a movement of philanthropy.
What is your mission at FIS and what were your first impressions?
My mission is to cultivate a strong culture of philanthropic support within the FIS community and to strengthen our existing relationships with donors. My focus will be on coordinating key initiatives—from annual giving to special events like galas—to ensure our school's mission continues to grow.
My first impressions have been great. The community is really warm and welcoming, and I’ve been impressed by the dedication of everyone from families, corporate partners, alumni, and board members. The school has a truly special, multicultural atmosphere where I can hear both French and English spoken, making me feel right at home while being in Asia. I’ve also been touched by the camaraderie and support from my colleagues, they're always ready with a smile and a helpful word.
A message for our community?
I am honored to join you all in this shared mission. I look forward to connecting with new people and reconnecting with familiar faces. My door is always open, and I'm always available for a chat. Please feel free to reach out to me with your ideas, questions, or simply to say hello. I'm here to work with our families, corporate partners, and alumni to raise funds and soon organize our long-awaited benefit gala. I promise to be a friendly face around campus, and not just at fundraising events! Together, we can create a legacy of support for our students and the future of education in Asia.
