Important Notice from the Consulate General of France – Tobacco and Alternative Smoking Products in Hong Kong

We would like to share with you an important message from the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong regarding the regulations in force for tobacco and vaping products.

Since 30 April 2026, the use or possession in public spaces in Hong Kong of vaping devices, electronic cigarettes, e‑liquids (including substances used in the composition of so‑called “space oil”), or any substance imitating traditional cigarettes, including plant‑based cigarettes, is strictly prohibited.

The importation and sale of these products in Hong Kong also remain prohibited.

Any person who violates these regulations is liable to severe penalties, which may include fines of up to EUR 6,000 and six months’ imprisonment, and up to EUR 250,000 and seven years’ imprisonment in cases of importation.

In addition, it is also prohibited to bring into or import into Macao any electronic cigarette, e‑liquid, or any substance imitating traditional cigarettes, including plant‑based cigarettes. Offenders may be subject to a fine of up to the equivalent of EUR 500.
