An Encounter with History: Larissa Cain, Holocaust Survivor

23 February 2026

On February 2nd, our students from 3ème, 2nd and Y10 students who were not participating in Prozap volleyball had the extraordinary chance to meet Larissa Cain, a smiling and warm nonagenarian, survivor of the Warsaw ghetto, the place on Monday in France to meet students in several schools in Hong Kong.

Larissa Cain was born in Poland in 1932 into a Jewish family active in cultural and political life. She spent her early childhood in Warsaw, surrounded by books, languages, and a strong sense of community.

After the war, she moved to France, where she completed her studies, became a dentist, and built a new life. Today, she shares her story with young people to help them understand the past and reflect on the values of courage, compassion, and resilience.

Her moving testimony was filmed in its entirety, and we hope to share it with the community soon. She concluded her presentation at the LFI by encouraging those present to remember that even in the darkest times, acts of solidarity did exist, and that this is a model to follow.

Larissa Cain has written eight books about her own story and the stories of others who survived the Holocaust, such as that of Irena Adamowicz, a Polish Catholic woman recognized as Righteous Among the Nations. Two of her books are available in the school library, and others can be found at the Parenthèses bookstore.
