CAS Week 2025 – Siem Reap

4 June 2025

The Year 12 CAS Trip to Siem Reap was a great success! Students participated in a variety of activities over the course of the week, experiencing a range of creative, active and service pursuits.  They explored historically and culturally significant temples, watched an impressive circus show on one night and a cultural dance performance during dinner on another. They faced and overcame fears on a high ropes and zip lining course, and learned how to cook traditional Cambodian dishes as well. The most meaningful part of the trip was the service project at Elma English School, a nonprofit English language primary school where we built upon the work done there last year by the previous FIS cohort. Over the course of the week we renovated a room and desks to be used as a computer lab, filling it with computers before we left. It is clear this made an enormous difference in the lives of the children at the school, but was also an experience that our students will remember for years to come.  Thank you to everyone in the community who helped support our students with this service. Whether it was from helping with fundraising efforts, direct donations of books or IT equipment, or helping our students prepare for the trip, we are grateful for your support.

Kayli: The cooking class was the highlight because it provided a unique cultural experience, allowing us to learn about the traditional methods used to prepare dishes.

Darren: I believe that it was really rewarding to help the school and the less fortunate kids. Temples were fun too.

Erwann: I really enjoyed working on the school, seeing how happy the kids were, and the end product was really fulfilling!

Melanie: Volunteering at the school was the most heartwarming experience of my life and i'll never forget them

Namish: It was a truly refreshing experience that formed what I'm sure will be long lasting memories of friendship, community and joy

Sarah: The circus performance was amazing, and I loved the music!

Unai: The days were rich in opportunities to learn and give back, allowing us to develop another understanding of how the world is.

Rin: The highlight in Siem Reap for me was the temple visits, as I have never visited temples like the ones in Siem Reap before and it was very interesting to see how their culture differed from ours.
