CAS Week 2025 – Bali

Students experienced an incredible blend of adventure and learning in Bali! They rode the waves and improved their skills with the guidance of Collin, Lorraine and their friendly surf instructors. The ecolodge in the jungle provided an immersive natural setting.
The students also engaged in vital conservation efforts, clearing invasive Lantana Camara and taking part in beach clean-ups, emphasizing environmental responsibility. Exploring the rich marine life, students snorkeled among colorful tropical fish in pristine waters.
Students marveled at the sight of monkeys and the endangered Bali starling, deepening their appreciation for local wildlife. With insights from conservationist Pak Nono, they gained valuable knowledge about sustainability and environmental care.
Throughout the trip, teachers were impressed by the students' strong sense of camaraderie, resilience, and infectious sense of humor. Their ability to work together, adapt to challenges, and support one another fostered a spirit of collaboration and friendship, resulting in lasting memories.

Leon: In today’s activity we learnt how to balance yourself on a surfboard and catch waves in order to surf. I hoped to accomplish riding waves without falling down. I would say that I was successful in the ‘middle part’ of the session as I know how to balance and my energy levels were still high.
Damien: We started surfing and I found it challenging at first. I had to catch and ride the waves. I was very curious at first, then I understood and it turned into happiness, since I learned a new skill. Overall it was a new challenge, but I felt like I overcame it.
Stephanie: I think I should work on standing up on the board more smoothly and try to not rush it, also remembering to hold my board nose first so it doesn’t bonk me in the head again! Encouraging each other is a really good way of being optimistic. Before I thought that I would always fail at surfing… I’m improving so much!
Marika: During the beach clean up, we collected trash in groups. During this activity I realised even if we throw things away, it’ll end up somewhere not necessarily good for the environment. After we came back, the leaders showed us different ways to sort trash, which showed us how much of it was recycled, and that was very little.
Wilfred: We were tasked with cutting down as many invasive plants as possible, it was really tiring. Despite being really physically demanding, it still felt satisfying to help nature.
Alexis: Today we went snorkelling and learnt how to use snorkelling equipment. We saw many species of fish and learnt a lot about them. I found it really fun and educational. After that we learnt more about coral and how they help the environment. When I get back to Hong Kong I would like to spread awareness and help marine life.
