Echoes of Nature: Art and Conservation of Birds and Insects, with Tim Marsh

We are delighted to share with you the launch of the project "Echoes of Nature: Art and Conservation of Birds and Insects".
Organised on March 27 and 28, the two workshops aimed to raise our students' awareness of the preservation of endangered species. Understanding the issues related to species extinction and their impact on the ecosystem was the goal to achieve. Tim Marsh, known for his commitment to street art, guided the students in using water-based spray paint on large 80 x 80 cm canvases, accompanied by their teacher Isabelle Bezançon, allowing them to express their creativity while addressing crucial environmental themes.
Year 12 students, Première, and Terminale Art Speciality had the opportunity to participate in aerosol painting workshops and explore various techniques where they could fully express their creativity, transitioning from photography to digital experimentation, and finally to an enlarged sketch that magnified and created stylised representations of endangered insects, highlighting their beauty and fragility. Some students created portraits of endangered birds in Hong Kong, emphasising their importance in the ecosystem.
This project is not limited to a simple artistic workshop; it is part of a broader educational approach aimed at integrating environmental awareness into our curriculum. These species are threatened by various factors such as habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. The conservation of these birds, in particular, is essential to maintaining the region's biodiversity.
Several Sustainable Development Goals were highlighted, including:
- SDG 4: Quality Education
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 13: Climate Action
- SDG 15: Life on Land
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
The paintings created will be exhibited soon, allowing us to share the students' work with the school community. We hope this project inspires each of you to reflect on the importance of biodiversity and our role in its preservation.
This enriching event combines art and conservation awareness, underscoring our commitment to preserving our environment. A big THANK YOU to Tim for his enthusiasm, sharing his expertise, and his positive spirit!
