Exhibition of Terminale Year Students Specialising in Arts 2025

30 May 2025

The French International School of Hong Kong is pleased to announce the upcoming Exhibition of Terminale Year Students Specialising in Arts 2025, starting June 3 and continuing until June 20.

This event provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the remarkable talent and creativity of our students in the Arts specialisation. Camille D., Olivia D., Shaé-Lin N., and Edgar L., have dedicated significant effort to a variety of projects, ranging from painting and sculpture to photography and digital arts. Their passion and dedication truly deserve recognition.

The Arts Specialisation class of 2025 perfectly illustrates the richness of interdisciplinary paths offered at theFrench School. It is also thanks to the other chosen specialisations that each student has been able to develop an artistic project, with unique profiles combining art with other disciplines: Digital and Computer Sciences, Physics-Chemistry, Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy, and Mathematics!

Here are some words about their artistic projects that reflect current and engaged themes:

Camille Demenais

"Once Upon a Time in Our World" draws inspiration from the artist Hombre Mcsteez and addresses the impact of humans on the environment through the animation of a character named Peter the Chick. Using digital drawings and sets made from recycled materials, Camille critiques the idealised visions of fairy tales, particularly those of Disney, while raising awareness about sustainability and our responsibility towards nature. This project invites reflection on the complexity of reality and the importance of preserving our environment.

Olivia Duong

The project "Mermaid and Siren" falls under the theme "Water in All Its States" and aims to denounce marine pollution while critiquing the idealised vision of the ocean. Through a 2D animation inspired by the myth of sirens from the Odyssey, Olivia seeks to illustrate the devastating effects of plastic on marine wildlife. This work raises questions about figuration, image representation, and the impact of humans on the environment, merging artistic intention with ecological commitment.

Shaé-Lin Ngo

The project "Hong Kong Media Library" pays tribute to the city by documenting its contrasts through three distinct sections. We discover a photographic series that explores the modern and traditional aspects of Hong Kong, a sketchbook accompanied by texts highlighting the city’s icons, and an audio mix that incorporates emblematic sounds. Inspired by the work of Berenice Abbott and Tom Wesselmann, this project questions the cultural identity of Hong Kong, threatened by increasing gentrification, and aims to provoke reflection on the transformation of this urban space.

Edgar LAMY

The project "Deep Problems" examines the impact of human activity on the ocean, a threatened source of life. Through a mixed technique combining stop-motion and 2D animation, Edgar denounces chemical and oil pollution, drawing inspiration from the visual storytelling of William Kentridge. This work highlights the causes of marine pollution, integrating symbols to create an evocative artistic language. "Deep Problems" becomes a wake-up call, blending visual poetry and reality to raise awareness about the fragility of marine biodiversity and engage in a critical dialogue about our environmental responsibility.
