FIS Scientists Shine at Inter-School Competition

6 March 2026

Our Year 4 and 5 students from the International Stream recently represented our school at an inter-school Science Competition, demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork, and innovation.

Throughout the day, our young learners were challenged to solve real world problems. The event required more than just scientific knowledge; it demanded a high level of collaboration and resilience as students tackled complex problems under time pressure.

Success in Sustainability

One of the highlight challenges was the task of building a functional water filter from a variety of raw materials. We are thrilled to announce that the FIS team secured 1st Place in this category! Their design showed a deep understanding of filtration processes and critical thinking.

Exploring Physics and Forces

The competition also put their understanding of physical forces to the test. Students were tasked with designing and constructing a moving car. This required them to apply their classroom knowledge of friction, air resistance, and propulsion to ensure their vehicles could travel effectively.

Developing Future Leaders

Beyond the trophies and results, the day was a fantastic display of the "Learner Profile" in action. Our students had to be Thinkers, pivoting their strategies when designs didn't work initially, and Collaborators, ensuring every voice in the group was heard.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 4 and 5 scientists for their hard work and for representing FIS with such spirit and determination. Congratulations to all involved!
