Policy Update: New Child Safeguarding Ordinance
Dear Parents,
We would like to inform you that our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy has been updated in line with the Hong Kong Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance, which will come into effect on 20 January 2026 The updated language aligns our existing policy with the new ordinance: Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance
This new ordinance strengthens protections for children and makes mandatory reporting a legal requirement for certain categories of specified professionals, which includes some school staff. Previously in Hong Kong, reporting concerns was considered a moral and professional duty, rather than a legal one.
Our internal safeguarding and reporting procedures remain unchanged, as FIS already has a child protection policy in place. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) continues to be the main point of contact for any child protection concerns. The role of the Safeguarding Coordinator has also been included in the policy to ensure a consistent and harmonised approach across FIS.
The safety and wellbeing of our students remain our highest priority. We encourage parents to read the updated policy to become familiar with these arrangements.
You may always access the updated policy and other policies at this link: https://www.fis.edu.hk/school-policies This can be found in the quick links menu of the main FIS website.)
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
