“The bleeding sea” by Lucia Podevin & Léo Xu

As part of the thematic exhibition "Water, In All Its States" organised by our art teachers from both departments, Isabelle Bezançon, Julien Jouaud, and Bruce Woolley, our middle and high school students have taken on the challenge of reflecting on our relationship as human beings with this vital resource that is WATER!
Their works, as analytical as they are aesthetic, as committed as they are technical, will be exhibited from 17 February to 18 March 2025, on the Blue Pool Road campus on the 5th floor.
For this occasion, we met Lucia and Léo who created a poster entitled "The Bleeding Sea," so that they could explain it to us:
The poster aims to condemn ocean pollution (SDG 14).
With Leo, we chose the theme of plastic and the overexploitation of marine animals. We want to convey a strong, simple, and clear message that denounces the consequences of our actions on our seas and its marine inhabitants.
By using three colours (black, white, and red), the message is clear and simple. The person looking at the poster is not distracted by bright colours. The turtle's gaze is directly focused on the audience, making the connection between the artwork and the viewers more impactful.
We were motivated to choose this theme because ocean pollution is a major problem that endangers the health of animals, our seas, and consequently our own. We aim to raise awareness among our audience about the consequences of their actions.
One concrete action that inspires me to take is raising awareness among students from other schools around the globe who may not have the opportunity to realise the state of our planet. I strongly believe that sharing our knowledge is the best way to convey the message. This action could help me learn leadership skills and public speaking that I wouldn't have acquired otherwise while raising awareness to those less fortunate, of the effects of our actions on our planet and the actions to implement.
Personally, I don't consume much plastic, and I try to recycle as much as possible when I do use some. I exchange clothes with my friends and share shoes with my brother and mother, as well as books. I was an eco-ambassador for many years and taught younger students (CM1 & CM2) about the effects of climate change.
I hope to continue making a positive impact on our planet and to be able to show others how to do the same.
Staff, teachers and students
