2 students shared some feedback on their participation to Inktober 2024:
- Charlize LAU (Y12/ IB Visual Arts) : FIS 2024 “Best Inktober artist” Award
When asked about the most challenging prompt she faced, and how she overcame it, Charlize, our top winner answered : “Personally, I found Day:18 “Grungy” to be one of the hardest prompts this year. I went through about 5 initial sketches since it was challenging trying to convey the unique style. Eventually after doing more research and using a few more references I arrived at the final drawing.”
Also her favourite drawing is Day 9: “Sun”. This prompt made her think of the Norse myth of Fenrir devouring the sun which she used as inspiration drawing an interpretation of the wolf. Participating in Inktober makes her more confident as an artist because she gets to explore her own style. She also liked that she was able to draw what she wanted with the guide of simple prompts. She liked that there is a freedom of showcasing her own ideas while also sticking to a theme. Sharing her work online lets her have an overview of her drawings after each day which was satisfying to see especially after they were all complete.
- Lilou FUMOUX ( 1ERE Specilate Arts) FIS 2024 “2nd runner up Inktober artist” Award
Lilou, who won 2 nd runner up Award, had discovered the existence of this challenge, through the art specialty. She tried and eventually got a taste for it, which pushed her to deepen the challenge and complete it. She said that one of the biggest challenges was to find inspiration, an original idea that would come out of the ordinary. She enjoyed answering about day 25: “Scarecrow”. Her idea came naturally with a scarecrow frightened by a bird. Her choice was to occupy all the space offered for a total immersion. She said that: “Drawing every day is a rather ambitious prospect, given the uncertainties that occur in life. It has been more favourable to answer several subjects at once during my few moments of free time, when inspiration is at the rendez-vous.” Overall, this challenge allowed her to learn how to draw with pens, tools she used only to write. Being more familiar with this tool, she learned how to give consistency to her drawings.
