Early Years & Primary

From the Principal of Primary (International Stream) – January 2025

9 January 2025

A warm welcome to both new and existing families as the second term begins after the December break. It is great having our students back on the campuses.

Naming Uniform Items

Due to the changeable weather, the school reminds parents to ensure that all FIS uniform items, such as cardigans, jumpers, and fleece jackets, are labelled with your child's name. It has been noticed that some students are wearing non-uniform jumpers, so parents are kindly requested to ensure their children are wearing the appropriate FIS winter school uniform items if they are feeling cold in school. This request does not apply to outdoor coats.

Progress checkpoint and personal targets

On Friday, January 17th, year one to year six students will receive our new Progress Checkpoint. This checkpoint will provide information about the objectives covered in English and Maths during term one and the level of the student's learning. It will also include each child's NGRT result (New Group Reading Test) and NGMT (New Group Math Test) results. You will receive further information explaining the language used and how to interpret the data in a separate letter via Engage.

Alongside the Progress Checkpoint, you will also receive your child's term two targets through Google Classroom. You are encouraged to take some time to discuss and reflect on your child's achievements from term one and add your comments.

To help our students live the School Mission and realise their full potential, practising and supporting their targets at home is really helpful.

IPC Personal Goals : Resilience

Our assembly theme for the upcoming weeks is IPC Personal Goal : Resilience. For our students, being resilient means to have a positive attitude and understand  that some learning requires more effort.

How to support and encourage resilience at home

  • Rephrase Negative Statements: When your child expresses self-doubt, like saying, “I’m not very good at this,” encourage them with a positive rephrase such as, “Practice makes progress.”
  • Use Encouraging Language: Offer supportive phrases when they face challenging tasks to boost their confidence.
  • Model Resilience: Share your own experiences of overcoming challenges to demonstrate resilience in action.
  • Reassess Goals After Setbacks: If your child encounters a setback in their education, help them to take the time to reevaluate their goals, develop a new study plan, and encourage them to remain committed to their academic journey.
  • Embrace Change: When significant life events occur, such as moving to a new city, actively seek new friendships and explore your new environment, transforming uncertainty into adventure.
  • Implement Coping Strategies: Teach your child to use coping strategies when facing difficult situations to help them navigate challenges effectively.

This personal goal is also linked to the FIS Primary Code of Conduct.  On the parent portal, you will find :
