International Schools in Hong Kong Emit 400 – 500 T CO2/year from Commuting
As we are starting this new module of our Sustainability Audit on transport, it is interesting to have some key data on how transport is impacting our environment.
Transport global footprint
- Transport is responsible for about a fifth of global carbon dioxide emissions and is one of the fastest growing sources.
- Road transport (passenger, not freight) accounts for 45% of global carbon dioxide emissions from transport.
- Switching to low-carbon forms of road transport such as biofuels and electric vehicles will be critical in society’s efforts to achieve net zero by 2050.
Transport footprint in Hong Kong
- Emissions from transport in Hong Kong have not decreased in the last 30 years.
- International schools in Hong Kong typically emit 400 – 500 tCO2/year from commuting.
You have received a survey and your participation is important
- The data from the survey will allow us to quantify FIS’ CO2 emissions from commuting. These emissions are determined by where people live (how far they must travel), their commuting choices, the energy efficiency of the vehicle, and the number of passengers per vehicle.
- From these data, we will be able to determine where and how efforts can me made.
If you haven't replied to the survey already, you can take 2 minutes to do so now.
